In stealth

An app concept for the kind of person who keeps a quiet list of things they want to be true of themselves, and never quite ships on them. Currently in early design. Most of the surface area is intentionally not shown here.

The problem

There is a particular kind of person who reads the same books, sets the same intentions, and ends each year roughly where they started. Not lazy, not unmotivated. They simply negotiate. A workout becomes a walk. A working session becomes an email triage. A quiet evening becomes a third glass of wine. The interior life is full of small renegotiations that, in aggregate, are the reason nothing changes.

Most habit and productivity apps make this worse. They reward partial completion. They round up. They let a streak stay unbroken on the strength of intent. The interface itself becomes part of the bargain the user is trying to escape.

The constraint

The design constraint I’m working with is binary. Every day either is what you said it would be, or it isn’t. No streaks for half a workout. No partial credit. The interface refuses to negotiate, because the negotiation is the disease.

That sounds austere, and the temptation in this category is to lean into severity, black backgrounds, military typography, drill-sergeant copy. I’m going the other way. The aesthetic is editorial: serif typography, a quiet tone of voice, soft warmth. The discipline isn’t in the visual language. It’s in the rules.

The screen shown here

One screen. The daily home, with the day’s rules redacted. It is enough to telegraph the binary scoring and the editorial direction without naming a single feature. The rest, the protocol library, the close-the-day flow, the social loop, the profile and streak surface, sits behind it and isn’t shared.

Outcome

In stealth, by design. The most interesting parts of this project are the ones I want to ship before I describe. If you’ve worked on something in this category and want to compare notes, I’d love to talk.
